Mr. and Mrs. Hubert
Mama and Papa also known as Hannelore and Thomas Hubert started Hubert's Department Store Inc. with their son Guenter in 1972. They moved to Newport, NH from Long Island, New York seeking a better quality of life for their family, less congestion, less crime, more open space and a sense of community. Papa discovered a dry goods store for sale in Newport, NH called Hirsh's. The family visited the area and knew this hardworking small New England town was the perfect place to raise their family and to grow their family business. The Hubert's committed themselves to provide the Newport community with quality clothes at a good value in a friendly, helpful atmosphere. This business philosophy and a lot of hard worked proved
successful. In 1984 the Hubert's needed to expand their business to their present day location in the historic Wheeler Block in downtown Newport.
Guenter and Kathy Hubert

Upon the retirement of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert in 1985, Guenter had dreams of continuing the family business
as well as building his own family. He met Kathy and together they became marriage partners as well as business partners. The business has grown as well as their family. Their family has grown to seven children and the business grew to five new locations.
Tom
Hubert
In 1985 their second location opened in Claremont, NH. Kathy and Guenter knew that in order for a store to bear their name and be successful they would need help in running the business from someone who was committed to the family blueprint of success. Simultaneously brother Tom Hubert returned home and was ready for the challenge.
Knowing and understanding what Hubert's of Claremont needed to be,
Tom joined his brother and sister in-law and created this new store.
Together, the Hubert's found their consumer base growing rapidly and found opportunities to serve three other New Hampshire communities; New London in 1991, Woodsville in 1995, and West Lebanon in 1997. With five stores and a centralized warehouse the Hubert's are proud to employ seventy-five people.

Meet the next generation of Huberts
They are learning the ways of the family business to continue to expand and grow Hubert's department store for the third generation: Ariel,
Alissa, Garrett, Sage, Taryn, Darien, Gunter, Hannah, Thomas Jr. and
Nicholas.
